Every March since 1980, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association) celebrates National Nutrition Month. This annual event is meant to promote nutrition education and wellness, and to encourage Americans to return to the basics of healthy eating.
This year’s theme for National Nutrition Month is “Get Your Plate in Shape”. It is perfect for 2012, because less than a year ago USDA’s MyPlate replaced MyPyramid as the easy-to-use and understand tool for consumers to interpret the dietary guidelines. The 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans encourage more fruits and veggies, and a more balanced plate for everyone!
The Inner Door Center® will help to celebrate National Nutrition Month by hosting a food drive. We will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items at our center starting March 17th, 2012 and ending March 29th, 2012. Food collected will be donated to Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan. For more information on drop off times and items recommended by Gleaners, please stop by our Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/346813362028791/
