Taking Yoga off the Mat

The practice of yoga is not only a physical practice, but a mental practice. It teaches us to be in the present moment on our mats and focus on our breath. While it teaches us to be in the present, the art of yoga also teaches us how to take its benefits off the mat.

Breathing is essential in yoga. Inhaling in through the nose and out through the nose makes us generate a type of song that we learn to live by. Focusing on our breathing relaxes our mind and helps us block out distractions and focus our mind on what’s within.

We all go through stress in our life and have trouble managing it. Breathing is an incredible way to relieve stress. Take a moment to breathe in and out through the nose, and you will notice your mind beginning to relax and come at peace.

“A mind free from all disturbance is Yoga.” – The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
